Video: Patricia de Lille’s Rap Highlights Issues Related to Substance Use and Abuse
The book Substance Use and Abuse in South Africa is a timely asset to studying drug addiction and prevention. It is a research-based guide to understanding drug abuse in South Africa, especially via neuroscience and behavioural science studies. Addiction, epidemiological reports, effects and prevention are some of the pertinent topics covered.
Cape Town’s reputation as a hotbed of drug abuse recently got the mayor, Patricia de Lille, involved in a prevention campaign. She believes that reaching the youth is paramount, and what better way to do so than through a medium they understand – rap:
Cape Town mayor Patricia de Lille is reaching out to the youth by rapping against drug abuse.
In a newly-released, one-minute song, featuring DJ Ready D and Khanyi, De Lille raps: “Don’t smart, be smart. Drug free is the way to be”
