Sufi Narratives of Intimacy by Sa’diyya Shaikh is Winner of the UCT Book Award 2015

Sufi Narratives of IntimacySa’diyya Shaikh has been named the winner of the UCT Book Award 2015 for Sufi Narratives of Intimacy: Ibn ‘Arabi, Gender, and Sexuality.

The UCT Book Award is presented annually in recognition of an outstanding book by a UCT staff member.The award comes with a prize of R30 000, and is open to all book categories. Nominations are made by members of the UCT community, for books that “bring credit to UCT by virtue of their contribution to scholarly literature, education, science and the arts.”

Previous winners include Professor Nicoli Nattrass for her book The AIDS Conspiracy: Science Fights Back, Sonja Loots for her novel Sirkusboere and Pippa Skotnes for her work Claim to the Country: The Archive of Wilhelm Bleek and Lucy Lloyd. JM Coetzee was the recipient of the award in 1984 for his play Waiting for the Barbarians
